withholding As of check date March 13th 2009 will
be the first pay date affected by the recently enacted American recovery
and reinvestment Act of 2009 which signed into law by president Obama on
February 17, 2009. As a result many employees will notice a decrease in
the amount of federal taxes withheld form you pay. While
the amount of decrease will vary for each effected employee, generally
the reduction on a bi-weekly basis will range from $0.00 to $30.77,
depending on your earnings and filling status of single or married. According
to the IRS many higher-income taxpayers will see little or no changes in
their take home pay. The reduction phase out for taxpayers with adjusted
gross income between $75,000 and $95,000 for single filers or between
$150,000.00 and $190,000.00 for married filers. The legislation affects
federal withholding only. There
is no change to state and local income tax withheld from your wages. ************************************************************************** 3-2-2009 For your deduction calculations Circular-E tax guide
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf ADP PAYROLL BULLETIN AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT OF 2009 On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, commonly known as the
Stimulus Bill. The legislation includes changes to COBRA provisions,
transit benefits maximums, HIPAA privacy and security rules, IRS revised
form 941, revised IRS tax tables, and many other areas. ADP has
processes in place to monitor and react to the changing legislative
landscape and support your organization’s ongoing needs. As
your business partner, ADP is committed to assisting you with compliance
so you can focus on your core business. To support your efforts to understand the impact
of this new legislation, we developed www.adp.com/stimulus as an information resource. This site will be
updated as information about the various relevant pieces of this
legislation becomes available. Please check the site often or sign up for the RSS Feed to
notify you of updates. ADP has made changes to comply with the new Wage
Withholding and Advanced Earned Income Credit (AEIC) payment tables to
accommodate the new Making Work Pay credit. Modifications have been
made to ADP’s Payroll Systems, including Teledata, PCPW and
PayeXpert to use these new tables beginning with payrolls processed on
March 1, 2009. As a result, employees may see a decrease in their
federal withholding and/or an increase in their AEIC (if applicable),
beginning with the first payroll on or after March 1, 2009. If you
have employees in states that follow the federal tables, they may also
see a change in their state withholding. The IRS advises that most employees do not need to fill
out a new Form W-4 (Employee’s Withholding Allowance
Certificate). However,
individuals or couples with multiple jobs may want to submit a revised
Form W-4 to ensure enough withholding is held to cover the tax for the
combined incomes. Publication 919
(“How Do I Adjust my Tax Withholding?”) provides additional
guidance for tax withholding and can be found on the IRS website: www.irs.gov. ADP is working
to make this transition a positive experience for you and your
organization. |
